ZOMBIE COW

Picture

Season 9: Episode 161

Folk tales have been important to us for centuries, but in the grand span of their existence we only started writing them down relatively recently. In this episode of the Folklore Podcast, we are joined by Scottish storyteller Allison Galbraith, who is one of those who not only tells in person, but also commits stories to print.

Amongst these is the tale Zombie Cow, which she performs as part of this episode and which we couldn't resist using as an episode title.

This episode is a rich investigation into the art of storytelling, the written word and much more.

About our guest

Hello, I am a narrator, storyteller and writer. I live in southern Scotland.
My first Degree is in Drama & English, and my Master’s is in Scottish Folklore. I’m a qualified adult education teacher with a Supported Learning teaching qualification. I worked as an Expressive Arts Lecturer in Further Education for ten years, teaching dance, movement, Drama and communication skills.

Putting my knowledge of Scottish folklore to good use, I co-authored a collection of environmental folktales from England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales - Dancing With Trees, Eco-Tales from the British Isles, 2017.

My second book, Lanarkshire Folk Tales, dives deeply into the folklore & culture of Scotland’s most populated county, Glasgow.

Funny Folk Tales for Children is my third collection. Stories from around the world that make you laugh, 2023.
I facilitate writing & storytelling workshops for all age groups and abilities.

I have worked for The Scottish Book Trust as a Writer in Residence for ASN Primary children and with STEM Equals as a writer, facilitator and storyteller.

In 2022, I led storytelling and writing workshops for the Scottish Badger Trust.
